Launched in 2012, the Canal Festival has grown each year, steered by volunteers and supported by partners including Burnley Council and Canal & River Trust.  The Festival is now a part of the Super Slow Way arts programme and is managed by Mid Pennine Arts.

Due to massive regeneration and change at all three key Festival sites, Burnley Canal Festival will take a short, enforced break in 2019.  We are delighted to confirm, though, that the very popular, national award-winning event will be back in the future, stronger than ever.  We have thoroughly explored all the alternatives, in an effort not to disappoint thousands of supporters, but now we are looking ahead, and starting to plan for the future.  With strong commitment from all our partners, and a  renewed, future canalside to explore, we are confident that the next BCF will be the best yet.

Meanwhile, if you are looking for some family friendly and FREE OF CHARGE activities in 2019 as summer drifts into autumn, come and join us!  Something is happening along the towpath… Explore the Meanwhile on the towpath… page to find out more!

“Brillant day at the Canal Festival today. We were there for four hours and didn’t get round to everything. Our children want to go back tomorrow to finish it off! A real credit to the organisers.”  Festival attender, 2018

“The best family event I have ever been to! We had the best day ever, lots of laughs, great chat, mega fun! We will be back next year! “
